Listening to: Sirenia - Lithium and a Lover
Watching: Sleepy Hollow
Well I just got back to Ottawa after having spent the Canadian Thanksgiving with my family. It was the first time i'd seen my family since i came to this university, which would be a little over a month. I don't think i've gone that long without seeing them before..
but the weird part about it is, i didnt feel excited or anything. it felt... normal. i didn't feel like i was seeing people i havn't seen for a month. i felt like i was seeing people i see every day. My mother, on the other hand, practically had a heart attack when i walked through the door (more on that later
I took my MP3 player with me, obviously for music during the hours of travel, but also for the intention of downloading things i can't connect to from this shitty university connection. sadly, the computer i was using sucked and would reboot itself when it ran out of memory (which was often.. Windows 98
So on friday, something completely genius happened. I had agreed with my friend Andrew to get a ride back to Peterborough sometime that afternoon, about 3pm, after my programming lab (ends 2:30pm). At least, that's what my mother knew. the night before, i called andrew up and told him i would probably be able to slip out of my programming lab early and we could all show up in peterborough and surprise family/friends/whatever by getting there hours earlier than expected.
What happened? well.. in my programming labs, what they did last week was check if you had your Pre-Lab done, then you could leave or stay or whatever. This week they decided you couldn't leave unless a TA saw your program working and told you you could leave. I was sitting there, not even logged in, with my pre-lab out and pretty close to the front of the class so i could get out of there ASAP. upon hearing that, i logged in as fast as i could and typed up a storm. I managed to program the entire program, give it an organized looking output, and even check my calculations with a hand-solved example i did on the spot before the TA got to me (took about.. 5-10 mins).
In short: I totally owned the hell out of that lab while the guy next to me was looking over at my monitor asking me how to start
I got the hell out of there at 12:10pm'ish. We left Ottawa at 1pm, about 2 hours before expected to, and just to be sure i set up my computre to shut down 2 hours after i left just because i knew my mother would sit there watching msn to see when i went offline. Walked in the front door, said hi, and scared the crap out of her
I'm glad it worked out.
Colesnotes: got home early, surprised mother through a well-executed, well-plotted scheme.
While at home, i didnt do much. watched a couple of movies with my sister (sleepy hollow being the last, enjoyed it thoroughly
As i was saying, i'm back in ottawa now. time to study some more. chem lab due tomorrow, i'm not done it yet (although i'm pretty close). also i've got a chem quiz i forgot about, i get my chem midterm back on thursday (hope i did okay
oh, almost forgot, i finally uploaded a fresh deviation. enjoy. let me know if you like it...
